Children & Family Programs

Advance registration is required for all Children and Family programming.

Cancer affects the entire family unit: spouses, siblings, parents, extended family members, friends and children!
Our Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS), provides individual and family consults to children, teenagers and parents/caregivers who have been touched by cancer.  These consults provide an opportunity for children and adults to ask questions, share their stories, and receive therapeutic services to help them cope during the cancer journey.

A wide variety of support groups and family activities are offered: Children's Support Group, Children's Relaxation Group, Family Art Classes, PJ parties, Summer Day Camp, Family Movie Night and more. Below, you'll find detailed descriptions of the current groups and events we offer for children and families.

Children and Family Consults
Our Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) is available to meet with parents, children, teens and other family members to discuss issues and concerns related to the cancer experience.

Children's Day Camp

Monday-Friday, July 15-19: 9:00am-12:00pm

Children (grades K-7) whose family has been touched by cancer can attend this week-long program. Day Camp will include therapeutic activities, crafts, songs, special programs, and outdoor play. Please register early as space is limited. All camp activities are free and the registration deadline is Monday, July 1.

Children’s Support Group
Tuesdays, May 14, June 11, July 9, Aug. 13: 6:00pm – 7:00pm

This is an ongoing support group for children (grades K-7) who have been touched by cancer or have experienced a loss from cancer.

Children's Martial Arts

 Thursdays, May 23, June 27, July 25, Aug. 22: 7:00pm-7:45pm

Children and teens (ages 5-15) will utilize martial arts skills not only as a physical outlet for coping with a loved one’s cancer, and to develop a sense of achievement, power, and control. This program will expand the participants’ positive energy and teach them physical, emotional, and spiritual defense—all while boosting selfesteem! Children are required to wear loose and comfortable clothing. Class size is limited to 8. RSVP REQUIRED.

Children’s Yoga & Relaxation Group
Wednesdays, May 15, June 19, Aug. 21: 5:30 – 6:30pm

The Children’s Yoga and Relaxation class explores yoga poses, breathing exercises, visual imagery and relaxation techniques while conveying lessons in self-expression, body image, social skills, positive thinking, and environmental awareness. This is a great opportunity for children to learn how to unwind from the daily hustle and bustle of life.

Teen Recreational Group
Fridays, May 10, June 14, July 12, Aug. 9: 6:00pm – 8:00pm

A group for teens (ages 13-18) who have been touched by cancer. This therapeutic recreational group will give our teen participants an opportunity to socialize with other teens and provide a venue for healthy discussions. This group will meet at SCP and also enjoy occasional nights out in the community.

Hi Karl,

I think we may have mentioned it, but we hired an Event Coordinator, Raven DeVoll, who will be starting here on Monday.  She will have the back development office (Elaine’s old computer).  Would it be possible for you to set her up with a log in and whatever else she needs prior to Monday?  (Outlook access just in case, access to the Sdrive etc.?)  Or walk me through how to do it?  I am going to try giving her an email address now.

Thanks!

Stacey
