Participation Policy Statement
Use of Programs and Services
Stewart’s Caring Place provides a compassionate community of support and education for individuals and families touched by cancer through supportive care programs and services free-of-charge to participants. Our intent is to provide a safe environment and programming that is helpful and beneficial to those involved. We expect our participants to discuss concerns with appropriate staff and we recommend consulting with a physician before taking part in physically-based programs or therapies. Stewart’s Caring Place reserves the right to refuse or to discontinue its services or facilities to any person.
Healing Arts Therapies
Healing arts sessions are provided for the purpose of stress reduction and relaxation. The healing arts sessions are not a substitute for medical or psychological diagnosis and treatment. Our professionals do not diagnose conditions nor do they prescribe any substances at Stewart’s Caring Place. Healing arts sessions will not interfere with the participant’s treatment from a medical care provider. Prior to participating in a healing art session, you will be provided a statement of what you can expect to happen at the appointment, who your facilitator will be, any applicable training your facilitator has received, and a notice that facilitators at Stewart’s Caring Place do not receive a financial benefit. You will be asked to acknowledge these statements prior to receiving services.
Medical Assistance
The staff, volunteers, and Board members of Stewart’s Caring Place do not recommend or endorse any specific treatment, physician, or medical facility on behalf of the agency. The staff of the Resource Library makes every attempt to maintain current, legitimate health-related materials. Materials housed in the Resource Library do not necessarily reflect the individual opinions of Stewart’s Caring Place staff, volunteers, or Board of Directors.
Confidentiality
While Stewart’s Caring Place takes every effort to keep participant information private, we cannot guarantee confidentiality relating to participation in complementary or alternative health care services. Information about participants is shared among staff and select volunteers at Stewart’s Caring Place for purposes of supervision, program planning, professional collaboration and assessments or compliance in legal mandates.
