STEWART’S CARING PLACE ANNOUNCES THE RETIREMENT OF JEANNINE MARKS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Akron, OH (Feb. 23, 2022) — Today, Stewart’s Caring Place, the Akron-based nonprofit providing supportive services and programs for individuals and families on their cancer journey at no cost, announced the retirement of its longstanding Executive Director and supporter, Jeannine Marks.

Jeannine has served Stewart’s Caring Place since its inception in Oct. of 2004. She has been a volunteer, donor, board member, and the organization’s Executive Director for the last eight years. Under Jeannine’s leadership, the nonprofit has increased its fundraising and budget by over 900% and dramatically expanded its programming to families with a cancer diagnosis, allowing them to serve thousands of families in 18 counties.

Additionally, she has helped the organization raise operating, endowment, and capital funds, including its most recent capital campaign to create Stewarts’ new headquarters. The new center is located at 3501 Ridge Park Drive in Fairlawn, Ohio, which allows for future growth and opportunity for the families it serves.
“While we are incredibly sad to see Jeannine go, we will forever be grateful for her extraordinary service, contributions, amazing results, and indelible impact,” stated Board President, Brenda Spear. “We are happy that she will be able to move on to the next chapter in her life and extremely fortunate to have had such great continuity of leadership at this loved organization.”

When asked about her retirement, Jeannine humbly stated, “As a person who has experienced great loss because of the devastating effects of cancer, my personal mission has always been to fully support individuals and families on their cancer journey and ensure that they are not alone, and their needs are met. We see the positive effects our mission and work can accomplish to support our families. We regularly connect people to hope and all the wonderful, holistic, and inspirational resources we offer. I have been honored to serve this organization in this role and look forward to the continued success of our community, board, and staff from here. We have built an amazing team that supports so many people during their darkest times and I just know the best is yet to come.”
A search team has been set in place to find Jeannine’s successor, which has been underway for several months and will culminate with an announcement in May.
